Amazfit –

This is currently the hottest wearable in China, and now it is available Globally. The Amazfit GTR smart watch features the classic look of a traditional watch, and is perfect for sports and business use. Its most prominent feature is ultra-long battery life, which, with up to 12 days for normal use, you could say goodbye to frequent charging. It includes 12 sports modes to keep track of your health in different status.

Inside the GTR is almost identical to the Amazfit Verge Lite in operation, except that it has a compass and an altimeter for tracking altitude gained and lost during workouts. Outside it is a much dressier watch than the Verge line with a specially fabricated case and removable TPU backed leather bands. This review covers the basic operation and specific differences with the Verge and Verge Lite.

The band width is 22mm.

NOTE: This watch, like all other Amazift and Mi Band products, will not work standalone out of the box. You must tether it to the associated phone app (Amazfit or Mi Fit depending on device) in order to activate it. To gain access to and be able to use the phone app, you need to crate an account (there is no “Guest” option), and acknowledge extensive terms of use and privacy statements. Then you need to grant access all kinds of permissions on your phone and be connected to the Internet so your phone’s ID (the IMEI), your location, and all kinds of other information you place in the app can be uploaded to servers in China. Remember, China is not a part of or bound by either the USA or EU rules regarding privacy, which must be followed by companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook who are established companies outside of China. Once you have acknowledged, agreed to, and entered the app, only then can you pair with your Amazfit or Mi Band device and use it away from your phone, but you can’t even see the time of day on the screen until you are an internal part of the “Xiaomi Ecosystem”.

    1. Thanks! And thanks for being first to comment! In the “virtual” initial screening of the movie, first commenter gets the sofa, 2nd gets the bench, and third gets the floor. First five are in the front row and next five are in the 2nd row. That’s all the premier theater holds. All ten get a virtual bag of complimentary popcorn. I hope you enjoyed your sofa experience!

    1. Yep. This is the really deep look and comparison. You should have a good idea about this one after watching.

  1. Like the description warning users about data collection, some people dont take it seriously enough , good job buddy, great review, keep up the good work

    1. Thanks. Appreciate your understanding about the need to point this stuff out to folks. I feel like fingers scratching a chalkboard (wait, nobody knows the meaning of that as they’ve never seen a real chalkboard!), anyway, I feel real goosey (yikes! folks don’t know about goosey either! Ah well) when I have to sign up, login, and sign over all my data to the proverbial cloud. But I gotta do it to complete the review. And so it is.

    1. @SmartWatch Ticks Btw. I like your videos. Clear explanations with quality video and sound. Bought my self Huawei Band 3 after watching your review. This GTR is next on my list 🙂

    2. @SmartWatch Ticks No, they’re not saying you mispronounced anything. On the watch itself there’s a typo for the distance units, it says “feed” instead of “feet”.

    1. Tep. That would be awesome. True WearOS with AMAZFIT fitness experience. Perhaps they will go that route someday. We can always hope!

    1. The buying links are in the show notes under all the review videos, and the prices are there, often times along with a discount coupon! Thanks for asking.

  2. Hmm better battery, nice design, but no real reason for me to upgrade from stratos. Having a music player is key for me when choosing a sports watch, because I don’t want my phone near me when I running. Stratos is still the watch to beat for me 🙂

    1. I was bought Honor Dream and all i can say is Amazfit is better, but not significant. Amazfit GTR is good if you want the battery endurance, but Honor magic is more reliable in terms of system operation. My GTR sometimes inaccurate to record my fitness data.

  3. Did they raise the price with $10 so you get $10 discount with the coupon = no discount? Nice watch by the way, although I like the black version more.

  4. Do you think you’ll be doing a comparison video that shows the difference between the Bluetooth watches that are merely compatible w/ Android vs the ones that actually run Android for people who are unfamiliar w/ these indie smartwatches? there exist lots of cheaper watches that connect to Android phones but don’t run Android themselves. The spec sheets don’t always make this clear & many of these watches look very similar to each other.

    1. @rizky firmans Heart Rate Monitor. I know i can count on Apple’s, Samsung’s, Garmin’s HRM but Amazfit’s hrm? They should convince me.

  5. Very nice watch, but I really need the Always On Display. I’m hoping the successor to the Pace and Stratos come out soon. I have the Pace and skipped the Stratos (can’t buy every generation).
