No.1 D5 Part 1 Smartwatch Core Apps You Want To Install

NOTE: Android smartwatch D5 pro giveaway in facebook,
Now that your watch has access to the Internet and is logged into Google for access to the Google Play Store (all this is covered in our 3 part Essential Setup Guide series), we are ready to start installing apps. Part 1 of the Core App series guide you through loading Mobizen, Clean Master, and App Backup and Restore into your watch.

These three apps are valuable for loading your watch with some key utilities (which we will cover later) and your preferred apps, and can be removed later. For now, the will make things easier for you, more efficient for your watch, and set you up to take all the apps you need with you on your watch for off-line reinstallation as you juggle which apps to have on your watch under different circumstances.

If you are not technically inclined, this video may be a bit overwhelming. Just take your time and get through this. In Part 2 you'll see why you need to have these apps on your watch. You're moving into a whole new world of tiny. Tiny phone, tiny screen, tiny memory, tiny keyboards, everything tiny. It takes special techniques to deal with all this tiny, and hopefully these core apps will help.

UPDATE 3/30/2016: Yikes! Today Mobizen updated their main app, stripped the mirroring out, put it in a different app, and changed their main app to be screen recording ONLY. The impact is that the Mobizen you have been using WILL NOT WORK ANYMORE.

To get Mobizen screen control again you need to download their new app, "Mobizen Mirroring" from the Play Store. Here's the link:

Download this, get it up and running, and use it to get control of your watch. Then, use this new Mobizen Miroring app to navigate through the opening screens on your old Mobizen app (now Mobizen Screen Recorder) to get it configured if you want to use that recording feature on your watch, otherwise back it up with your App Backup and Restore app and uninstall it from your watch to free up space. You won't need it for controlling your watch.

I wish they hadn't done this. I'm going to have to record an update video on Mobizen now. The sad thing is that everyone using Mobizen will be locked out until they install the Mobizen Screen Recorder and set everything up again! Good grief.

  1. Would it be possible to do a video comparing No1D5 (Noid 5) to Android Wear with respect to how D5 works as an AndWear replacement? For example, do notifications auto show on the D5 like they do on AndWear or do you have to go find them? And I too would love to see Yoytube videos on! Thank you for these vids!

    1. +NewtonDKC I’ll do the YouTube video thing on the watch soon (I hope). As for the Wear comparison, I’m not familiar enough with Wear, nor do I have a Wear watch. The D5 is really limited in receiving notifications. Wear is probably much better as it is designed to be tethered to a phone where the D5 is designed to be used by itself and not with a phone.

    1. +SmartWatch Ticks I highly recommend using teamviewer now as I gave up on trying to get Mobizen to work. Not everything works exactly as expected on teamviewer and it does use a good amount of battery life but it was way easier for me to hop on and control my watch.

    2. +DominatorAVP
How were you able to connect with TeamViewer? I installed QuickSupport on the D5 and already had TeamViewer on my Note 4. When I click Remote Control on the phone with the watch ID entered, I get “Feature not available” on the Note and a corresponding “Login cancelled” on the D5.

    3. +Will Jordan I didn’t try controlling it from my phone, I used my PC instead. Maybe the Android version can’t remote onto another mobile device? Also I was using the full version of team version on PC. I’m not sure if portable will work or not.

    4. Hey TroysTube, can you explain how you succeeded with Teamviewer? When you say you use the the “full” version do you mean the paid version? I’m using Teamviewer Free (TVF). I loaded TVF, TVF Quick Support, and TVF Host on my X5 and none of them will work for me when connecting from my Linux laptop using TVF. What’s weird is that I’m able to connect to and control the same laptop from my WATCH using TVF! So I can control the laptop with the watch, but not the watch with the laptop. Any ideas? Thanks!

    5. +Riccardo Brognara I’m using the full installed version on Windows 10 meaning client and server which is still the free version. It sounds like the linux version doesn’t support controlling mobile versions of TV. Do you have any device that runs windows?

  3. hi. love your show. keep it up. 🙂

would like to ask you a question. I’m using ec720 now (same mtk chip) and would like to know how to mobizen it up? it seems that the new mobizen only does screen record and not mirroring. do you encounter that now?

    1. +Wan N Yea, Mobizen is a mess. I’ve posted notices under all the videos where I mentioned Mobizen on how to get back connected. Here’s what I said:

  4. Can you please let me know how to stable the Bluetooth connection as most the time phone did not recognize it and if recognize it lost very soon. Also I want to sync my email and see on watch. How to do it

  5. I want to buy this smartwatch, but I’m interested in the following:
    1. Can you read messages from viber, whatsapp, fb on smartwatch?
    2. Does the watch can view images received from, for example, Viber and whether it can be zoomed, and the same picture?
    3. Are the images on this watch can be zoomed in general as it can on android phone? 🙂 Did you make some video of it?

    1. +Marko6194 1. You should be able to run any Android phone app on these watches since they are like small phones. The text display may be too small to read if it doesn’t scale well, so you need to check each app separately.
      2. Yes, you should be able to view images. No, you can’t scale using two finger pinch and expand, but yes, you can turn on triple tap zoom feature to expand a picture to view it larger.
      3. No. pictures can’t be zoomed as on an Android phone. No, I haven’t made a video of it because you can’t do it. Only triple tap zoom works.

  6. Hi, good job for all that you done! I would know if there is an other apk that “montre helper” to connect the D5 to m’y smartphone? thanks a lot

  7. I have the Jbak keyboard installed on my Finow X5 but it’s too big for the screen, is there a way to reduce its’ size? Thanks.

  8. Hiya does this watch turn on when u rotate or lift your arm or do u have to manually turn it on all the time?? Thanks great channel.

  9. How can you mirror your smartwatch with an Androide phone cos its hard to drag my pc with me while im on the move 😉

    1. Install the app Mobizen Mirror. That should do it. You can control you watch from a browser on your phone or computer.

  10. Hi, i am thinking about buying No. 1 D5+ smartwatch. I would like to use it without sim card. My question is – is it possible to install strava application and use it for recording sport atcitivity. I mean – record track with build in gps a continously record heart rate during activitiy. Would you be so kind and test it for me? Thanks

    1. No, you will not be able to do that because 3rd party apps don’t have access to the heart rate monitor. I’m not sure about GPS capability for interfacing with strava. Perhaps one of our viewers with a D5 or similar watch can test it for you. I don’t have the time to test a variety of apps. You can also ask here:

  11. SmartWatch Ticks…is something changed in the app Clean Master because I know can’t get into the App Manager to move it to the 8 GB?

    1. SmartWatch Ticks I did installed Clean Master and Backup & Restore but now it gives a lot of advertisement I can’t delete on the smartwatch also not with Mobizen…what to do?

  12. maybe a bit late, but the app ‘Vysor’ works good (think this tip came from pablo11 ofcourse…)

    1. You usually install the apps from the Google Play Store on the watch itself. If you have the .apk installation files on the phone you can transfer them to the watch and install them that way as well. It would work the same way as transferring pictures or music from your phone to your watch. Just run the .apk files on the watch to install them there.

  13. Nice these apps tried several apps that you suggested.
However mobizen is an verry enoying app.. better try teamvieuwer works just fine even on smartwatches with android 5.1..and is way more easy to install.

Got one more tip for you try join.
This amazing app makes it possible to relay all you messages from your phone to smartwatch. Its realy good developed sends an icon with the notification. So its easy to know from witch app it is send..
    Join by joaoapps.
You even can reply on an message from watch to phone.

  14. I know this is older but great videos for a first timer like me. I just got my D5+ and I can’t get most of the apps on the device like open Mic + I was looking forward to it and the pc or tablet control… suggestions on new apps?

  15. was looking for Android watch and thanks to your excellent reviews amd how to videos, I purchased a used D5. I have all the videos in my playlist. I don’t think they are too long at all. but I am in my 60s and do not have a short attention span. Keep up the long explanations.
