JJRC X9 Heron GPS Gimbal Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This brushless GPS drone includes a 2 axis stabilized gimbal for smooth in-flight video. Find it here

– GPS and optical flow position hold drone.
– Automatic return to home and landing on command, loss of signal, and low battery.
– Altitude hold.
– 1080p 30fps camera with onboard micro SD card recording capability.
– Flight controller includes a built-in WiF relay with antenna for improved FPV reception.
– 2 axis stabilized gimbal.
– 3S 13.05V 1000mah LiHV battery.
– Real time FPV video may be viewed on your phone via the "Enjoy Fly" app available on Play here or iTunes here. App also enables follow me and circle position capability.

– Requires 802.11ac WiFi capable phone to utilize the app with the drone. Unfortunately not everyone has an 802.11ac WiFi capable phone. Make sure to verify that your phone is indeed 802.11ac WiFi capable before purchasing.
– Unstable GPS position hold. Encountered toilet bowl effect instability repeatedly during these its flights, even after multiple compass calibrations. The video ends with an uncontrolled flyaway on low battery.
– Up and down gimbal control was very jerky. Additionally, the gimbal tends to tilt slightly as the flight progresses.
– Circle and follow me capability is only available if the drone is flown without the controller, using your phone to control it via WiFi.
– 225 meters FPV range was somewhat short for a relay controlled drone.
– Short flight time of about 8 minutes (much less than the advertised 16 minutes). I also noticed intermittent and unexplained voltage drops during the flight.

  1. Such melodic ESC tones!
When a company can’t even be bothered with simple things like that, it makes me wonder what else they’ve not taken any care.
For the price, (£136) it’s a lot of cash to see fly off into the distance. Releasing a drone like will shelve a company’s reputation, people need a drone they can rely on.
I’ve just read the reviews in the provided link, are they really reviewing the same drone? 🤔😂

  2. Please send to JJRC with a note saying “Please fix me!” $136 Bucks of bad power drain bad gps toilet bowl and fly away. JJRC please try again. Send to quadcopter heaven nice try but failed in production. Might be ok in a year when its fixed. Thanks for the review.😁

  3. After seeing this video, I would like make a few comments here. I did see that you did compass calibration but didn’t do gyro calibration. The first GPS flight, GPS lock took just less than 2 minutes (7, 10, 11, 12) after the full calibration. My unit hold position solid. I notice mine has a slight horizontal tilt to the left. Please see my video. Mine is quite different from the unit you received. Now, I wonder why the same product but different performance??? Components used inside the drone???

    1. Hi simon, may i know what application you use? enjoy fly apps or c fly? The other reviewer that have working very well x9 i noticed his using the c fly apps instead of enjoy fly…. possibly it is working better on c fly apps rather than the stock apps enjoy fly?!

  4. Wah .. wah .. wah … wahhhhhh. Definitely not one to recommend .. quite a few better quads out there than this dud. Glad it didn’t fly away on you. JJRC has really been putting out some poor quality stuff of late .. almost like “Hey, let’s get this out on the market right away! Beta Testing? Naw .. we don’t need to do that. We’ll just let the early reviewers find out what’s wrong with it and hope we can fix it with a FW patch!” Terrible. Thanks for the heads up! Cheers!

  5. I respect your diligence in reviewing these and I know it’s for the income. However, as a guy who’s owned several dozen drones and have also built a few, save your money folks for a Spark. You get what you pay for. Can’t purchase a Lamborghini for chump change.

  6. Not that I am interested but on trying to check the price, the Gearbest website announced that these were sold out and kicked me off that page. p.s. pleased to see a negative review as being 100% enthusiastic becomes a little stale after a while.

  7. привет из России !! прошу пояснить JJRC X9 Heron лучше C-Fly Dream !? или они полностью одинаковы? заранее благодарю
