It is quite the package, i must say, we’re going to be talking about this laptop today, but before we do that, please make sure to the subscribe button and also press the bell icon so that you don’t miss out on any of our future videos assuming you’ve Done that let’s get started now, let’s jump straight to the performance section of this laptop before we begin i’d like to mention that the review unit that i got for this laptop is actually an engineering sample, so the performance numbers can be a bit off. They could be slightly better or even worse than the one that you would actually end up buying on the market. So just keep that in mind as you watch this video, the msi pulse gl66 is powered by one of the newer h45 processors from intel it’s. The core i7 1800 edge in this case, which has eight willow curve cores and 16 threads. You are looking at a base clock of 3.1 gigahertz at 45 watts and it can achieve a single core boost of up to 4.6 gigahertz, while all the codes can also run at up to 4.2 gigahertz for graphics. It has an rdx 3060 gpu, with six gigs of vram and it’s got a tgp of 80 watts, with five additional watts for more boost. You also get 16 gb of ram on board a 1 terabyte nvme drive and a 1080p display with a refresh rate of 144hz starting off with the gaming performance.

We will be looking at numbers for games running at max graphics settings at 1080p resolution, so that should give you an idea about what to expect from this laptop. The numbers are on your screen. Now, for example, on gta 5, i was able to hit upwards of 100 fps at maxed out graphics at all times. In fact, even newer and more demanding titles like control were running at around 110 fps at max graphics, but this was without ray tracing. As you can see, i was getting similar performance numbers even on other titles, across the board, like the metro, exodus, shadow of tomb, raider, apex, legends, etc, and all these games are running at upwards of 100 fps with some of them even hitting the 144 fps mark. Now, that’s the kind of performance you can expect from this gpu. The rta 360 is not an overly powerful gpu at the same time, it’s not a feeble card. So this is the kind of performance you can expect from an rtx 3060 gpu that’s configured at about 85 db for content creators. The eight cores on the core, i7 11800 edge and the 360 will deliver reliable performance too. For example, i was able to export a 5 minute 1080p project in just a minute 41 seconds in davinci resolve moving over to lightroom, the laptop was able to export 50 raw files in 1 minute 35 seconds 100 draw files took just a little over 3 minutes And 200 raw files were rendered in just little under 6 minutes.

These render times were faster than what we saw on the strix car 15 powered by the ryzen 9 5900 hx cpu. If you care about 3d mark numbers, the msi pulse gl66 code 4643 in fire strike ultra and 7271 in time spy test. Before talking about the surface temperatures, i want to give you some insights on the cpu and the gpu temps, both the cpu, as well as the gpu, as you can see, we’re able to handle the loads very well. The cpu was sitting at around 90 degree celsius, which is way under its tj max limit of 100 degree celsius, and even the gpu was running surprisingly cool in this chassis. I did notice the cpu hitting temps above 100 degree, which is you know above its tj max value, and yes, it did throttle a little bit, but you know what it wasn’t a common occurrence in this laptop and i did not notice any heavy fluctuations in clock. Speed as seen in this graph as for the gpu, the max temperature i recorded, was around 85 degree celsius, which is way below the tj max limit. These thermal values were also due to the fact that i was mostly running the laptop at extreme performance mode which mercilessly kicks off the fan immediately, irrespective of the loads, and it gets super duper loud, just listen to this once Music, yes, there’s, no way you’re going To hear the in game audio or even anything for that matter, so do keep that in mind.

It literally sounds like it’s about to take off any moment. I’Ll also quickly touch base with the vents. Here you do get a huge vent at the bottom of the chassis, and the hot air exists, the laptop from two vents on the back and this single vent on the side here. Despite all of that, i did end up recording a surface temperature of about 55 degree celsius. Yes, it does run hot, but it didn’t really affect the performance of the laptop. All that much now let’s talk about the display on the msi pulse gl66. You get a 15.6 inch 1080p panel here with a 144hz refresh rate now my experience with gaming on this laptop wasn’t, anything out of the ordinary it’s, a basic 1080p panel that’s suited for gaming, thanks to the higher refresh rate. The main issue, however, is with the color accuracy i put this panel through its paces to see exactly how it performs and found out that it’s extremely uncalibrated out of the box. The display showed heavy bias towards the blue color, and it was very evident looking at how much blue it was injecting and because of this, the display ended up reproducing inaccurate colors, especially when it comes to the different shades of blue. A lot of other colors also ended up, showing a huge variance and the delta e error. I ended up. Recording was 4, which, unfortunately, even a manual color calibration couldn’t fix beyond a certain limit.

Even the srgb and the dci, p3 color coverage were nothing close to what msi claimed, adding on to that. It also doesn’t get bright enough, which made it more difficult to use outdoors, but thankfully it’s got a matte finish that made it little easier on the ice overall. I just want to say that this is not a great panel, unfortunately, and i really hope that this is exclusive to my engineering sample and the unit that you will end up buying on the market will have a better quality panel. Moving on, we have the keyboard trackpad and i o i start with the keyboard, which basically has these nice wide details on the keycaps, backed by rgb lighting. It’S got a nice layout with the numpad and even the arrow keys aren’t that small either the travel on these keys i’d say is decent, but i found the feedback to be on the softer side. The touchpad has these weird imprints, but they don’t do anything. Nor do they light up, but i’m just happy that it’s, a responsive, trackpad with windows, precision drivers coming to the ports on the left side, you will find the charging port, along with the usb type, a 3.2 gen1 port and a usb type, a 2.0 port. Switching to the right side, you will see an rj45 connector, an hdmi connector, a usb type c, 3.2 gen1 port, another usb type, a 3.2 gen1 port and an audio jack. The port selection, as you can see, is plenty, although i do wish that it had an sd card reader so that there was, you know, literally no room for complaints.

Speaking of leaving no room for complaints, we have the design and the build quality of the msi pulse gl66. Now the laptop is mainly built out of plastic, with the exception of the lid which, if i had to guess, is made out of aluminum. There are visible lines on the lid trying to reflect the new pulse naming but other than that it has a fairly muted design. The base has this new honeycomb pattern that also makes room for more air to enter the chassis. Despite the plastic, build the chassis didn’t flex at all, when stressed, the lid can also be opened with a single hand, and the hinge here feels nice and stable. The bezels are also quite slim around the display, but both the chin and the forehead are relatively more pronounced and pack a couple of mics and a hd webcam. Overall, i really like the simple design of this gaming laptop coming in at just 2.25 kg it’s. Also, not the most heaviest thing on the market in the name of a gaming laptop, and there is no flashy rgb lighting as well so good stuff msi. Before we conclude the video, i want to quickly talk about the battery life of this laptop there’s. A surprisingly small 53.5 water battery inside this laptop that charges via the included 180 watt ac adapter on pc mark 10’s modern office battery test. It only managed to last for 3 hours and 17 minutes. Is that surprising? Well, not really because it’s a tiny battery at the end of the day that has to power hardware like an i7 processor and an rtx 3060 gpu in terms of real world usage, the pulse gl66 managed to last for about five to six hours.

When i lowered the brightness a little bit while doing my day to day work, i also noticed that the laptop discharges quite a bit, even though it’s connected to a charger while playing games. So i suggest you to charge this laptop only with the cable and the adapter included in the box and not with something else and besides that do not run games on battery power. Please connect the charger when you’re playing games just don’t. Do that and you should be just fine all right, it’s the verdict time so exactly how good is the msi pulse, gl66 laptop well, i’d, say it’s, a very capable gaming machine. I have been waiting for the new intel core i7 11800 cpu for quite some time now, it’s quite an exciting cpu and the fact that it leaves the ryzen 9 5900 hx behind in terms of rendering performance is just absolutely crazy. I didn’t have any issues with gaming performance either. Yes, the laptop runs a little hot, but those super noisy fans will come, rushing to save the day and keep the laptop from throttling all the time. I also like the simple design and the sturdy build quality, but i just wish i had some nice thing to say about the display. Besides is refresh rate for gaming. Msi has launched this laptop in india for rupees 1 lakh 40 000, and at that price i think it’s a very capable machine which can be used reliably for gaming and creative workloads.

That being said, i also suggest you to check out the asus zephyrus g15, which cost slightly less, but it takes the intel cpu for ryzen one, and it also has an rtx, 3070 gpu, well that’s gon na do it for me in this video.
